Before the offAfter long negotiation, the Council’s financial and administrative support and the hard work of a number of volunteers (you know who you are) – the new Marsh Lane allotments site is now open !!!

Huge thanks to Cllr Bill Acworth (Farmer Bill) who has put an immense amount of personal time and energy into not only making it happen but into preparing the land and facilities such that the new plot holders can get planting straight away. And plots were being dug within minutes of being allocated….

Little helperAlready the site is a hive of activity with a count of over 60 people busy at work on the first Saturday afternoon. It’s a very friendly place and there is an atmosphere of great community spirit. It is hoped that this fosters knowledge and skills exchange between the more experienced growers and those new to vegetable gardening.

It will be interesting to see how much food is produced from this land and how much in both kg and value will not need to be purchased from the shops to feed us in this and coming years.

Would anyone be interested in setting a project to measure it ? Mail to

We are hoping to keep a photo diary of the allotments site. Click here to see the images.

See the photo diary of Plot 7 from day one to date - fantastic !
